What is Giving Back?

According to Merriam-Webster, giving back means, “to provide help or financial assistance to others in appreciation of one’s own success or good fortune.”

Since 2015, the Alpha Chi Chapter Educational Foundation has been doing just that: Over 79 scholarships have been awarded to Purdue Theta undergraduates totaling $72,000.

Providing scholarship awards to members of the Alpha Chi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta and updating educational space in the chapter house.

Why We Give

Judy McKinney

Judy Kirkpatrick McKinney ‘51

“The Alpha Chi Chapter Educational Foundation gives my family a way to support Purdue Thetas; bright young students who can use our help.  I most like the opportunity for Alpha Chi alumnae and families to give gifts in honor of, or in memory of, a dear sister.”

Linda Sorensen

Linda Markins Sorensen ‘60

“In reflecting on the growth of our scholarship program, it is clear to me that this level of scholarship awards has been made possible by an extended Theta family that continues to grow. Thank you to all of our donors who have made this possible.” – President, Alpha Chi Chapter Educational Foundation 2012 to 2022

Hudson, Kelley '04

Kelly Jane Hudson ‘04 Spring

Kelly Hudson passed away unexpectedly in 2019 and her pledge sisters created a scholarship in her name saying, “Kelly is loved and missed and we are grateful to have been blessed with her as our sister, forever and always.” – Members of the 2004 pledge class.

Zoe Coulson Scholar Award

Each semester a Zoe Coulson Scholar Award is presented by the Educational Foundation to the active member with the most improved GPA.

Zoe Coulson, a member of the 1951 pledge class, was a trailblazer for women in business at a time when women were just beginning to realize their value in work outside the home.

Before Zoe passed away, her brother gave her Kappa Alpha Theta badge and other jewelry to her pledge sisters.  With the donations that arrived in her memory, the Zoe Coulson Scholar Award was established.
