Support the Educational Foundation through a year-end gift or a monthly donation.  These gifts fund various scholastic activities throughout the year, including scholarships, scholastic awards and educational improvements to the chapter house.

Publicly traded appreciated stock can be among the most tax-advantaged items to donate to charity.  To do so, ask your broker to contact the Alpha Chi Chapter Educational Foundation to work out details.

For those alumnae aged seventy-three (73) and older, U.S. tax laws require annual withdrawal from traditional IRA and employer-sponsored retirement plans. This Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) is an excellent way to support the educational efforts of the Alpha Chi Chapter Educational Foundation.

Using your RMD up to $100,000 to benefit the Educational Foundation is an option if you:

  • Are 73 or older
  • Own an Individual Retirement Account (IRA)
  • Have a Required Minimum Distribution

You will need to instruct your IRA custodian to make a distribution directly to the Educational Foundation and this distribution counts toward your RMD. While there is no tax deduction, the distribution is excluded from your income for federal tax purposes and thus no tax is due on the distribution.

A donor-advised fund is a charitable organization administered by a public entity which has been created to manage charitable donations on behalf of organizations, families, or individuals. These are often in a community foundation, very popular in many states, including Indiana, but there are also funds established by Vanguard, Charles Schwab, Fidelity, etc.

To participate in a donor-advised fund, a donating individual or organization opens an account in the fund and deposits cash, securities (including low basis securities), or other financial instruments. They surrender ownership of anything they put into the fund, but retain advisory privileges over how the account is invested and how the fund distributes money to charities. This is often used as a substitute for a private or family foundation since the administration and tax reporting is done by the public charity. Talk to your financial advisor to learn more about donor advised funds.

An endowment is an excellent way for an alumnae or family to remember the Alpha Chi Chapter in perpetuity. To create a permanent named endowment for scholarships, within the Educational Foundation, it takes $10,000. This can be paid over a three-year period and qualifies for endowment status when the full donation is received. Additionally, funds can be added at any time. Read the list of current endowed scholarships.

As part of your legacy planning, you can leave the Educational Foundation a specific amount or percentage of your estate through your will or trust, including a charitable remainder trust.  All you need to do is to amend your will or trust and add the Educational Foundation as a specific beneficiary of your estate.

To name the Educational Foundation as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy, all you need to do is to prepare a new beneficiary form and name the Educational Foundation as a percentage of the policy proceeds. The beneficiary would be the Alpha Chi Chapter Educational Foundation.

Employee matching gifts are donations an employer makes to match its employees’ charitable contributions. Employee matching gifts often are dollar-for-dollar, but some companies will give double or even triple the original donation.

The Alpha Chi Educational Foundation is eligible for those matches, so please check with your company to see if it offers a matching gift program that will match your gift or volunteer hours to the Educational Foundation.  If your employer requires an Employer Identification Number (EIN), use 46-0976921.

You may mail or email your completed matching gift form to:

There are many reasons to make a gift to honor a special person, while providing educational support to the Educational Foundation and in turn the Alpha Chi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta.  A memorial gift to remember a Theta loved one, and tribute gifts to honor pledge sisters, graduations, and other special occasions help keep Alpha Chi Chapter strong.

The Educational Foundation will acknowledge memorial and honorary gifts by sending a note to the family or person in whose name the gift was made.  The amount of your gift will not be mentioned and a separate receipt/letter for your tax files will be mailed to you.
